Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES)

(Kopie 2)

Auger spectrum of an oxidised chrome surface

Auger electronen spectroscopy (AES) is an electron-spectroscopic procedure for the chemical analysis of surfaces. Here so-called auger electrons, which are generated by means of bombardment with high-energy electrons, as well as other methods, are spectroscopically analysed. From the kinetic energy of the auger electrons, important information such as the element composition of the surface can be acquired. In addition, auger electrons can also be used for imaging (scanning auger microscope).
